A Word from Our Staff

A Letter to Bethany Church

Dear Bethany Church,

As we begin this new journey together, I am excited for what I am convinced will be a fruitful season of ministry. Lauren and I have been so encouraged by the love and support that we have received from each of you. We look forward to sharing life with you, watching Scarlett grow up in our children’s ministries, and serving alongside you to see the Kingdom of God advance in our city and world.

I am humbled by the call to lead Bethany Church. As I reflect, two thoughts come to mind. The first is how Paul describes Jesus’ love for the Church in his letter to the Ephesians. He implores husbands to love their wives, “just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless” (Eph. 5:25-27).  When I think of the role and responsibility I have here, it is to work to this end; to give myself up in sacrificial love to this congregation in order to see her become the beautiful and blameless bride of Christ.

The second thought is something I’ve shared with you recently. To be great in the kingdom of heaven is to become a servant of all. Jesus taught His disciples, “But whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” My heart is to model this type of servant leadership as I shepherd the flock of God entrusted to my care.

I want to thank you personally for your support and belief in me. I look forward to connecting with you all in meaningful ways as we grow in our relationship with God and go to our families, jobs, community and world with the life-changing message of the Gospel. May we all seek to glorify God and labor to see people transformed into passionate disciples of Jesus!

Grace,

Pastor Jeff Levine
